Located on the banks of the River Tyne, bursting with North East pride, passion and flair, The Sage will be a place like no other.
Combining spaces for entertainment, live events, dining, relaxing and connecting, it will bring people, communities, culture and businesses together – and all with that famous Geordie warmth and welcome.
Wherever you’re from, you’re home here.
A GLOBAL STAGE
So much more than just a venue, The Sage brings a global stage to the North East including:
· A 12,500-capacity arena to host the world’s top performers in music, comedy and entertainment
· International-grade conference and event space including 17 conference suites – big enough to host major gatherings yet small enough to offer space for the earliest stage start-up business
· Green spaces and an outdoor performance square to give everyone room to breathe and think
· An eclectic range of bars and restaurants to suit all tastes and occasions
· A dual branded hotel offering 344 bedrooms of comfort and convenience
All of this in an iconic riverside location in Tyneside’s cultural heart – little wonder that we’re expecting over a million visitors a year, generating a £70m boost for the economy and creating 2,000 jobs.
CARING FOR THE PLANET
The Sage will care for the planet as much as its many audiences and will be built with climate-conscious engineering in mind.
In addition the development will be supplied with heat and power from the Gateshead District Energy Scheme, fed by urban solar parks and naturally heated mine water extracted from ancient mine workings 150 metres below the site – powering the future with the help of the past.
Electric vehicle charging points will be available on site and The Sage’s superb location in the heart of the Gateshead and Newcastle quayside means major public transport links are only a short walk away.
Add to that dedicated green spaces with iconic river views and you have a place where eco and entertainment meet.
COMMUNITY FOCUSED
A place for the world to gather, The Sage offers genuine access for all with an approach that puts the community first, right from the start. Sage will aim to prioritise local contractors in the supply chain, ensuring that the building is supported by North East businesses where possible.
We’re working with local education providers to offer young people work experience and apprenticeships so that the next generation of talented workers don’t have to leave the region behind to fulfil their dreams. We’re backing music and performance organisations in the region working with local bands and artists who could be our future headliners.
We’re pioneering special access passes to low income and socially deprived sections of the community who might otherwise miss out on events.
We’re knocking down barriers to business success, supporting companies and entrepreneurs from across the region with work space options and opportunities to showcase their products and services to a global audience.
